About FINN
FINN Marine Technologies LLC is a Long Island-based marine technology company building tools to help captains better understand the information already being generated by their vessels and the environment around them.
FINN stands for Focused Intelligence for Nautical Navigation.
Modern boats can produce an enormous amount of information — position, speed, depth, weather, chart data, vessel systems, and more. FINN is being built to bring that information together and turn it into focused, explainable insights that help captains understand what changed, why it matters, and what they may want to consider next.
Built around the voyage
FINN is designed around a simple idea: a voyage should leave behind more than a track on a chart.
Planning, sailing, recording, debriefing, and learning from time on the water are all part of the same experience. Over time, FINN is intended to build useful context around the vessel, its voyages, and the conditions in which it operates.
The goal is not to replace marine electronics or the judgment of the captain. It is to make the information already available more coherent, more useful, and easier to act on.
From small boats to connected vessels
FINN is being developed to work across a wide range of vessels.
On smaller or lightly equipped boats, mobile devices can provide a useful starting layer of instrumentation and voyage awareness. On more sophisticated vessels, FINN is intended to work alongside existing marine electronics and integrate with broader onboard systems and marine data standards.
The intelligence is designed to remain independent of any single device or hardware configuration.
Built by a product and engineering team at heart
FINN was founded by Ken Rowe, a technology product leader with more than 20 years of experience developing and commercializing technology products.
His background combines engineering and communication, with degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stony Brook University and Journalism and Mass Communication from New York University.
That combination shapes the way FINN is being built: technically rigorous underneath, but focused on presenting information in a way that is understandable and useful to the person actually making decisions on the water.
Where FINN is today
FINN began with Code Zero, an internal proving ground used to validate the core technology and begin testing the platform in real conditions.
Development is now moving through Code One, the first FINN beta intended for broader real-world testing with sailors and boaters.
As Code One develops, early testers will help shape what is useful, what needs refinement, and where FINN should go next.
